RICH LAUREL
Rich Laurel, a 1977 graduate, was a four-year letterman on the men’s basketball team from 1973 through 1977.
Rich is Hofstra’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 2,102 points and also ranks 16th in rebounds with 647. He also holds several single season marks including scoring average with 30.3 points per game, points with 908, field goals made with 355 and attempted with 663 – all during the 1976-77 season. Rich’s 30.3 scoring average ranked fifth in the nation in 1976-77.
During his four-year playing career Hofstra won two East Coast Conference championships and played in the NCAA Tournament in 1976 and 1977. He was the 1977 Haggerty Award winner, which is presented to the top player in the New York Metropolitan area.
Rich was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round, 19th overall, of the 1977 NBA Draft and played in 10 games during the 1977-78 season.
