NORMAN RICHARDSON

A men's basketball student-athlete from 1997 to 2001, Norman Richardson was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2001 after guiding Hofstra to the NCAA Tournament and winning the America East Player of the Year Award.

Richardson was a member of three postseason teams (two NCAA and one NIT) during his tenure, and ranks ninth all-time at Hofstra with 1,677 career points and third with 192 three-point field goals.

He was the recipient of the 2001 Haggerty Award as the top player in the metropolitan New York area and is one of only six players to have been named the Most Valuable Player of the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden two times. In addition, he was named to the ECAC Holiday Festival All-Decade Team along with Allen Iverson (Georgetown), Ray Allen (Connecticut), Andrae Patterson (Indiana), Felipe Lopez (St. John’s) and Ron Artest (St. John’s).

A second team All-America East selection as a sophomore and junior after averaging 13.9 and 16.2 points, respectively, Richardson would go on to be a first team selection as a senior in 2001 when he averaged 16.7 points per game in leading the Pride to a second consecutive America East Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. He led the team in scoring in both his sophomore and senior seasons.

Following graduation, Richardson played professionally in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers during the 2001-02 season. He then embarked on an eight-year career in Europe, playing for teams in Italy, Serbia, France, Poland and Germany. He has also played in Argentina and in the NBA D-League.

From June 2012 until 2014 Richardson served as head coach of TSV Bietigheim, a professional club in Germany.
