NICK GALLO
Nick Gallo, a 1978 graduate with a degree in education and a Long Island wrestling legend whose successes came on the scholastic, collegiate and international level in a career that spanned almost 30 years, was the NCAA champion at 126 pounds in 1977 and is Hofstra’s only wrestling national champion. Nick not only was the national champion and an All-American in 1977, but also earned the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.
During his four-year career at Hofstra, Nick posted a 104-14 record. Nick also competed on the world stage during and after college. He earned an alternate position on the 1976 United States Olympic Team while at Hofstra and later won a silver medal for the U.S. World Team that captured the first Gold Cup in U.S. wrestling history. Nick also coached the Hofstra Wrestling team for three years, compiling a 34-19 record with nine conference champions and 10 NCAA qualifiers. Nick was honored by the University in 2009 and a singlet bearing his name hangs from the rafters at the Mack Sports Complex.

As vice president of T.W. Promotions, Nick has been a major supporter and promoter of scholastic, collegiate and international wrestling in the United States, especially Long Island. Nick was inducted into the Suffolk County Hall of Fame in 1998 and received the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. Nick is also active in the Hofstra Pride Club and was an honoree at the 2003 Hofstra Pride Club Dinner.
