Jack Concannon and senior
Josh Byrne have been named to the 2017 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Nike Division I All-America team, the USILA announced Wednesday. Concannon was a second team All-America selection while Byrne was a third team pick.
Concannon, a goalie from Lindenhurst, New York, was named to the 2017 Inside Lacrosse Division I Media All-America second team last week and to the All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) second team earlier this week. He was voted to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) first team for the second consecutive season in 2017. Concannon leads the CAA in goals against average (8.80) and save percentage (.571) and is second in saves (161) while playing all but 15 minutes this season. He ranks fifth in save percentage, 13th in goals against average and 16
th in saves per game in Division I.
Concannon recorded double-digit saves in nine of the 14 games in 2017 including a career-high 19 saves against Providence and 17 stops against both Stony Brook and Georgetown. He was named the CAA Player of the Week three times this season.
Byrne, an attackman from New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, has earned a suitcase full of awards in 2017 highlighted by a USILA Division I All-America third team selection today. Byrne was named a 2017 Inside Lacrosse Division I Media All-America honorable mention last week and the All-ECAC first team earlier this week.
The 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Award-winner, Byrne also earned All-CAA first team accolades for the second consecutive season after leading Hofstra and the CAA in goals (41), assists (25) and points (66) while playing in 14 games. Nationally, he ranks seventh in goals per game, 12
th in points per game and 21
st in assists per game. Hofstra finished the season with an 11-3 record and ranked 16th in the country.
Byrne posted 10 multi-goal games in 2017, including eight contests with three goals or more. He ended his career with a 19-game point scoring streak. Byrne picked up 23 ground balls and had two game-winning goals. He also earned CAA Player of the Week honors three times this season. In two seasons at Hofstra, Byrne accumulated 71 goals and 40 assists for 111 points in 29 games.
Concannon and Byrne are the first Hofstra student-athletes to receive USILA All-America honors since
Sam Llinares was named an honorable mention All-American in 2014 and the first players to be named to an All-America team since Chris Unterstein and Brett Moyer were first team selections and Athan Iannucci and John Keysor were second team honorees in 2006.
