Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Stephen Gorchov

Pride Falls Just Short To #20 Sacred Heart

Hempstead, NY - Drew Bogardus had a season-high four goals and the Hofstra men's lacrosse team gave #20 Sacred Heart all it could handle before dropping a narrow 15-13 decision to the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Gus Langtry and Trevor Natalie both had three points on two goals and one assist in the contest today to help the Pride offensively.

Hofstra dropped to 2-7 with the loss, while Sacred Heart improved to 10-0 with the victory.

Joey DeYoung got the scoring started and after Sacred Heart scored three straight, the Pride got three straight tallies to take a 4-3 lead following an unassisted goal from Anthony Mollica

After halftime saw it be a one-goal game, Hofstra would eventually even the score at 10 with 4:37 left in the third quarter following a goal from Bogardus.

Sacred Heart would retake the lead and held a four-goal advantage in the fourth quarter before Hofstra attempted to rally and got goals from Bogardus and DeYoung 70 seconds apart to close the gap to two, 15-13. That would be as close as the Pride could get, though, as the Pioneers kept Hofstra off the scoreboard in the final couple of minutes.

DeYoung and Mollica each chipped in with a pair of goals for Hofstra. Will Delaney, Austin Clarke and Blake Cooling all had four ground balls in the game. Clarke and Cooling each contributed three caused turnovers as well.

Jake Carney, Will Moulton, and Dom Basti all had three goals for Sacred Heart. Craig Daria made 13 saves in net for the Pioneers.

Hofstra returns to action next Saturday, April 4, when it hosts Fairfield at 3:30 p.m. That game is part of a doubleheader with the women's lacrosse team, which will host Drexel at 12 p.m.

Prior to the men's lacrosse game, Hofstra Athletics will retire Ryan Tierney's #13 jersey.

- Hofstra is now 14-1 all-time against Sacred Heart.
