For the ninth time since 1997, Hofstra has been selected to serve as host for the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals. The University was named as one of the two sites for the 2017 Quarterfinals, with the University of Delaware serving as the other site. Hofstra will host the quarterfinals in 2018 as well.

Shuart Stadium will host one of the two quarterfinal doubleheaders on Saturday, May 20, 2017. It will be the first NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinal that Hofstra has hosted since May 17, 2014 when Maryland defeated Bryant, 15-8 and Notre Dame edged Albany, 14-13.

"Hofstra University is very excited to once again host the upcoming NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals at beautiful James M. Shuart Stadium," commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway. "Shuart Stadium is a tremendous lacrosse venue and lacrosse fans have sold out this event in the past with record setting crowds. Get your tickets now so that you can enjoy another spectacular day of lacrosse at Hofstra on May 20."

Shuart Stadium, which seats more than 13,000, is the largest outdoor sports complex on Long Island. Opened in 1963, it has served as the site for NCAA Championships, New York State High School Championships, world championships and professional contests.

Shuart Stadium has been an important venue in NCAA Lacrosse history as it served as the site of the first-ever NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship game in 1971, which saw Cornell post a 12-6 victory over Maryland. Since then the stadium has hosted first round NCAA Tournament games in 1973, 1993 and 2006, and NCAA Quarterfinals in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2011 and 2014.

The four largest crowds in James M. Shuart Stadium history occurred during the hosting of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals. A stadium record of 13,519, the largest-ever lacrosse crowd on Long Island, watched the 2014 NCAA Quarterfinals at Hofstra. 13,447 spectators were in attendance for the 2011 NCAA Quarterfinals, while a crowd of 12,292, a then-NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinal record, witnessed the 1999 NCAA Quarterfinals. In 2001 10,510 fans attended the quarterfinals at Hofstra.

In addition, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals hosted at Hofstra has been a good luck charm for one of the four participants. The eventual national champions have come through the NCAA Quarterfinals in Hempstead, New York in six of the eight previous quarterfinals hosted by Hofstra.
