Seth Tierney will get to see his 2016-17 Pride team in game-like conditions for the first time on Wednesday night (Sept. 21) when the Pride scrimmage the touring Japan Falcons Club team at James M. Shuart Stadium. The scrimmage begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
Tierney, who is starting his 11th year with the Pride in 2016-17, returns 31 student-athletes from his 2016 squad that finished the year with a 9-6 overall record and the number three seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship semifinals.
While Hofstra lost a solid starting scoring trio to graduation in All-CAA selections
Sam Llinares (28-11-39),
Korey Hendrickson (29-9-38) and
Brian von Bargen (28-7-35) as well as CAA Defensive Player of the Year,
Finn Sullivan, six starters return from last year's team led by senior
Josh Byrne. The Nassau Community College transfer led the team in goals (30), assists (15) and points (45) in his first season with the Pride. Junior midfielder Brandan Kavanagh, who was was fifth on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points, and classmate
Trevor Kupecky, who added nine goals and seven assists for 16 points, also return on offense.

Jack Concannon, an All-CAA first team selection, also returns in 2016-17 after recording an 8.56 GAA with 167 saves and a .568 save percentage. Senior face-off specialist
Kris Clarke, an All-CAA first team selection as well as a men's lacrosse all-academic pick, also returns after winning 163 of 285 face-offs for a .572 winning percentage.
Wednesday night's scrimmage is the first of two scrimmage dates for the Pride as Hofstra will also host the HEADstrong Foundation's Nicholas Colleluori Classic at Shuart Stadium on Saturday, October 8. The Pride will face Hobart at 10:30 a.m. and Yale at 3 p.m. that day.
