BB: Hofstra Heads To Monmouth Tuesday For Final Non-Conference Game

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team will play its final non-conference game of the season when it travels to Monmouth Tuesday afternoon. Game time at the Monmouth University Baseball Field is set for 3 p.m.

The game marks the second of the season against the Hawks, which posted a 5-4 win at Hofstra on March 23. Shaine Hughes' two-out single in the top of the ninth inning drove in Robbie Alessandrine with the go-ahead run as Monmouth posted a come-from-behind victory. The Hawks trailed 2-1 and 4-2 before scoring three times over the final four innings. Ryan Karl had three hits for the Pride in the leadoff position and scored two runs. Vito Friscia had his first extra base hits of the season with a home run and a double, and drove in three runs.

Hofstra (15-33) is coming off a doubleheader split against Buffalo this past Saturday, losing 11-3 in game one before posting a 2-1 win in game two. Tom Archer drove in runs in each end of the doubleheader and had two hits in both contests as well. David Leiderman drove in three runs on the day with a two-run triple in game one and a sacrifice fly to open the scoring in game two. John Rooney picked up his third win of the year after allowing a run on five hits in six innings. Chris Weiss, Bowie Matteson and Andrew Mundy each threw scoreless innings with Mundy notching his second save of the season.

Monmouth (27-24) is coming off a series loss to Fairfield, losing two of the three games. Hughes leads the Hawks with a .385 average and 15 doubles. Grant Lamberton has a .345 average and 43 runs scored. Dan Shea is batting .303 with six home runs and 44 RBIs.

Bowie Matteson will get the start on the mound for the Pride, which will use a multitude of pitchers as a tune-up for a weekend CAA series against James Madison. Monmouth has not announced a starter.
