BB: Hofstra To Host NYIT Tuesday and Manhattan Wednesday

Hempstead, NY -The Hofstra Baseball team will host a pair of midweek non-conference games beginning Tuesday against NYIT at 3:30 p.m., followed by a Wednesday afternoon contest against Manhattan at 3 p.m.

The games against both schools will be the second meeting of the season. Hofstra defeated NYIT in Old Westbury on March 29, 3-1, in 11 innings. Max Dolente drove in what proved to be the winning run with a single and Tom Archer's bases loaded walk forced in an insurance run. Adam Heidenfelder picked up the win, the first of his career, with two scoreless innings of relief. Chris Bonk came on in the bottom of the inning and allowed a one-out walk, before inducing a game-ending double play for his first career save.

Hofstra lost at Manhattan, 5-1, on March 22. The Pride managed just three hits in the loss. Manhattan's Marc Galvan picked up the win, allowing an unearned run on two hits in five innings of work. . Dave Jesch took the loss for the Pride, allowing two runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. John Rooney went the rest of the way and was charged with three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Both Hofstra pitchers recorded five strikeouts.

Jesch is scheduled to start against NYIT. The senior is 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA in 13 appearances (2 starts). He will be looking for his 10th career victory. The Bears will counter with Frank Valentino, who is 1-4 with a 7.09 ERA in eight appearances (4 starts). Bowie Matteson (2-3, 3.50) is scheduled for the start on Wednesday and will throw limited innings as he is also a weekend starter for the Pride. Ryan Takacs (0-3, 9.53) is tentatively scheduled to start for the Jaspers.

Hofstra enters the week with a record of 8-24 and is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of Delaware. NYIT is 13-17 on the season, while Manhattan is 8-19 entering its Tuesday game at Army West Point. Following the pair of non-conference games, the Pride will host CAA-leading College of Charleston in a three-game set beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
