Hofstra Cannot Complete Comeback In Loss To Towson

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra scored two times in the bottom of the ninth inning and had the tying and winning runs in scoring position but could not complete the comeback in a 6-5 loss to Towson Saturday at University Field. The loss tied the CAA series between the teams at one game apiece headed into Sunday's finale.

Towson Aden Knowles was staked to a 3-0 lead after four innings and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Michael Craig broke up the bid with a leadoff single and, after moving to third on Tyler Castrataro's single, came in to score on a sacrifice fly from Michael Brown. Castrataro would later score on a single off the bat of Tyler Cox

The teams exchanged runs in the eighth with the Tigers scoring on a bases loaded walk, while the Pride scored on a Nick Gallello single. Towson would add two more runs in the ninth to lead 6-3. Frank Adamski Jr. had an RBI single and Josh Janove added a bases-loaded walk.

Hofstra made a stand in their at-bat as Craig laced a one-out single, advanced to second on defensive indifference, and scored on a single from Brown. Brown would advance to second on indifference and third on a wild pitch. An intentional walk to CJ Griggs put runners on the corners. Cox came through with another RBI single and then took second on indifference. That put runners on second and third but Towson closer Jacob Whiteman got a strikeout to end the game.

Knowles (2-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits in 6 ⅔ innings. Whiteman picked up his fifth save after facing the final two batters in the ninth.

Hofstra starter Chris Bedford (0-5) was charged with the loss, allowing one run on three hits over two innings. Cox finished the day with three hits and two RBIs. Craig had two hits and scored two runs.

The teams conclude the series Sunday at 12 p.m.

Notes:
-Brown had two RBIs for the Pride.
