Hofstra Blanks Towson To Earn Series Win

Hempstead, NY - Nick Reese turned in another outstanding performance and Nick Gallello and Michael Craig each drove in a pair of runs as Hofstra picked up an 8-0 win over Towson Sunday in a game called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to turf issues on the pitchers mound. The victory gave Hofstra the CAA series win over the Tigers, 2-1.

Hofstra improved to 17-24 overall and 11-13 in the CAA with the win. Towson dropped to 18-27 overall and 6-18 in league play.

Reese threw his second complete game in as many starts, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts. The freshman lefthander ran his record to 4-2 with the win.

Hofstra touched up Towson starter Liam Diehl for three runs in the first inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Diehl got a comebacker from Gallello, but opted for the safe out at first base as one run scored. A ground out from Gabriel Melara plated the second Pride run, while the third came home on a throwing error.

Hofstra tacked on a run in the third on a RBI single from Biddle before pulling away in the fourth with four runs. Two runs came in on a single from Gallello that was played into a two base error by the Towson right fielder. Craig drove in the final two runs with a double.

Diehl allowed six runs (5 earned) on five hits over three innings to take the loss and fall to 1-6. Brady Nathison, Josh Janove, and Yariel Rodriguez had the Towson hits.

Hofstra will be back in action Wednesday at New Haven with a 3 p.m. start time.
