Hempstead, NY - Hofstra will have its first midweek test of the season when the Pride travel to Army West Point Wednesday afternoon. Game time in West Point, New York, is slated for 3:30 p.m.
Hofstra (3-7) is coming off a three-game sweep of Coppin State in which the Pride scored 49 runs, had 42 hits and held the Eages scoreless for the final 22 innings of the series. The 49 runs scored in the series are the most in a three-game series in program history, besting the old mark of 46 set against Coppin State in 2007.
Mat Annunziata batted .667 (8-12) with four doubles, a home run, eight RBIs and seven runs scored in the series.
Ryan Karl hit .545 with three doubles, a triple and four RBIs, while
Nick Bottari batted .417 with a home run, three doubles and seven RBIs. Hofstra's back-to-back shutouts were the first since the 2012 season.Â
Army enters the game with an identical 3-7 mark and is coming off a 6-4 win at UNC Greensboro this past Sunday. John McCarthy paces the Black Knights with a .360 average, two home runs and 14 RBIs in six games. Justin Reece is batting .351, while Kris Lidner and Josh White have each stolen six bases. Wednesday's starting pitcher is Daniel Burggraaf, who is 0-0 with an 11.57 ERA in two appearances.
Either
Andrew Mundy or
John Rooney are expected to start on the hill for the Pride. It would be the first start for either freshman. Mundy is 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA in three appearances, while Rooney is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three appearances. He does have 11 strikeouts in eight innings pitched.
