Hofstra Suffers Shutout Loss Versus Stony Brook

Hempstead, NY - Micah Worley struck out 13 batters over 7 ⅔ innings as Stony Brook posted a 5-0 win over Hofstra Saturday at University Field. The Seawolves victory evened the CAA series between the teams at one game apiece ahead of Sunday's finale. 

Hofstra dropped to 11-17 overall and 6-8 in CAA play with the loss. Stony Brook snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 10-21 overall and 7-10 in league play. 

Stony Brook scored an unearned run in the first off Hofstra starter Joseph Curreri (0-1) on a double play grounder and then added a run in the second on a wild pitch. Mike Cervoni singled in a run in a three-run eighth inning with two additional runs scoring on an error on the play. 

Curreri allowed the two runs on four hits over three innings. Jackson Bauer went four innings and allowed a run on four hits. Tanner Sanderoff allowed two runs (one earned) in the eighth, while Grady Lacourciere threw a scoreless ninth. 

Worley scattered three hits and walked one, while the 13 strikeouts were a career-high. Chantz Doughty paced the Seawolves offense with three hits, including two doubles.

The teams will conclude the series Sunday at 12 p.m.

-The shutout loss was Hofstra's first of the season.
-Nick Biddle had two hits
-Gabriel Melara and Danny Corona each hit a double.
