BB: Hofstra To Meet Coppin State; Schedule and Venue Changes Announced

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team will look to get in the win column this weekend and it faces a non-SEC foe for the firsttime when the Pride travel to Maryland for a three-game series against Coppin State University. Due to field conditions and winter weather, Coppin State's Joe Cannon Stadium is not playable so the games have been moved to Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland. Saturday's doubleheader will now begin at 11 a.m. and Sunday's finale will start at 3 p.m.

Hofstra enters the weekend with an 0-7 mark following a three-game series at #4 Texas A&M and a four-game series versus Missouri. The Pride nearly had their first win of the season last Sunday in the series finale against Missouri, but the Tigers rallied to tie the score in the ninth and then pushed across the winning run in the 10th for a 3-2 victory. A win for the Pride this weekend will mark the 100th career victory in the coaching tenure of Hofstra Head Coach John Russo.

Junior Brad Witkowski has been Hofstra's hottest hitter to start the season, posting a .375 average with two doubles and four RBIs. Graduate transfer Ryan Karl is batting .286 and has Hofstra's lone home run. Sophomore Teddy Cillis and red-shirt junior David Leiderman are each batting .250 with Leiderman knocking in four runs as well.

Senior Bowie Matteson, who will start Sunday is Hofstra's top pitcher thus far with an 0-1 record and a 2.45 ERA in two starts. In his last outing, the Saugerties, New York, product allowed one run on four hits in seven innings versus Missouri. Sophomore Chris Weiss (0-1, 6.75) will start the opener Saturday, while senior Alec Eisenberg (0-1, 8.31) will get the ball in game two.

The Eagles of Coppin State are 1-6 on the season with a win over NYIT, and losses to NYIT (twice) and Georgia State (four times). John Kraft leads Coppin State with a .464 average, one home run and five RBIs. Bryant Miranda is batting .350 with a double and two RBIs. Devin Sotorius has the Eagles lone win on the mound and he is 1-1 with a 7.45 ERA in two starts. The Eagles did not announce a pitching rotation for the weekend series.

Hofstra is 6-0 all-time versus the Eagles. The teams have not met since the 2008 season when the Pride posted a 9-7 win in Baltimore and a 12-3 win at University Field.
