MLAX: #12 Hofstra Travels To #13 Stony Brook Tuesday Night

Hempstead, NY – The 12th-ranked Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team, coming off a successful 3-1 homestand, head out for a two-game road trip beginning with a match-up against local rival, the 13th-ranked Seawolves of Stony Brook this Tuesday, March 15 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

Hofstra is 4-1 on the season after Saturday's 8-5 victory over 20th-ranked Ohio State at James M. Shuart Stadium. Senior Brian von Bargen tallied a career-high three goals while classmate Korey Hendrickson and junior Josh Byrne each added two goals and one assist to lead the Pride. Junior Kris Clarke won 10 of 17 face-offs and senior Finn Sullivan picked a team-high five ground balls for Hofstra. After the two teams ended the first quarter in a 1-1 deadlock, the Pride opened the second with goals by Hendrickson and Byrne , and two more by von Bargen and Hendrickson to build a 5-2 lead.

The Pride, which posted wins over Princeton (11-10 in OT), NJIT (19-4) and Ohio State (8-5) in their four-game homestand following their season opening win at North Carolina (10-5), will have two road games this week as Hofstra will travel to Rhode Island on Saturday for a contest against the Providence Friars at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on the PC campus after the Stony Brook contest.

The Seawolves of Stony Brook are 4-1 on the season and ranked 13th in the USILA/Nike Coaches Poll and 15th in the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll this week. The Seawolves have wins over Rutgers (15-6), Fairfield (9-6), St. John's (14-6) and Sacred Heart (17-8).

In Stony Brook's most recent win, over Rutgers last Friday, senior Matt Schultz scored four goals and tied a career-high with seven points, junior Alex Corpolongo tied a career-high with four goals and senior Brody Eastwood added three in the victory.
 
Stony Brook averages 13.80 goals per game while allowing 8.40 per outing. The Seawolves have been quite dangerous on the man-up, converting 15 of 25 chances for a .600 percentage. Stony Brook is led in goals by Alex Corpolongo with 15 goals, including a team-high four man-up goals, and two assists. Matt Schultz has the points lead with 22 on 13 goals and nine assists. Senior Challen Rogers leads the squad with 12 assists and chipped in with five goals while Brody Eastwood has tallied 11 goals and three assists. The Seawolves have utilized a two-goalie system with senior Zach Oliveri starting all five games and playing 150 minutes and posting a 9.20 goals against average with 27 saves and a .540 save percentage. Sophomore Brandon Maciejewski has played in five games and almost 147 minutes and has a 6.54 goals against average with 38 saves and a .704 save percentage.
 
Hofstra and Stony Brook will be meeting for the seventh time and the first time since the 2009 season. The Pride hold a 4-2 series lead. Hofstra defeated the Seawolves, 12-11 in Hempstead in that contest. In 2007, Stony Brook topped the Pride in Hempstead, 13-12 in overtime in their last victory over Hofstra.
