Hempstead, NY – Four Hofstra University Men's Lacrosse graduates have been selected to play in the 2015 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I/II North-South Senior All-Star Game. The 74th USILA/LaxWorld North-South Games will be played at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA this Friday, May 22, 2015. The Division III All-Star game will be held at 3:00 pm and the Division I/II All-Star game will be held at 5:30 pm
Midfielder
Mike Malave (Wading River, NY), long-stick midfielder
Ryan Rielly (East Northport, NY), short-stick defensive midfielder
Steve Romano (Massapequa, NY) and goalie
Chris Selva (Parkland, FL) have been named to the Division I/II North roster. Short-stick defensive midfielder
John Reicherter (Wantagh, NY) was also selected to play in the senior all-star game but is out of the country and will be unable to participate.
Malave, who was recently named a USILA Scholar All-American, earned his first All-CAA honor, on the second team, in 2015 after recording career-highs of 28 goals and 34 points. The 2014 All-CAA Tournament team selection was fourth in the league in goals and sixth in points in 2015. He also led the conference and was second in Division I with 10 man-up goals. Malave tallied three hat-tricks this season including a career-best tying five goals at Georgetown in March. He also added two assists against the Hoyas for a career-best seven point performance. In addition to his USILA Scholar All-American honor, Malave was also named to the CAA Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team.
Rielly, who was also recently named a USILA Scholar All-American, earned his second All-CAA first team honor in 2015 after earning first team honors in 2014. He anchored the Pride's rope unit and was one of the top two-way defensive middies in the game. Rielly recorded four goals and two assists and picked up 27 ground balls in 14 games this season. He scored goals against Marquette, Princeton, Georgetown and Ohio State. Rielly also finished second in the CAA and 38th in Division I in caused turnovers with 18 including four in a win over St. John's.
Romano, who has been an Iron Man for the Pride over the past four years, played in 57 of the 58 games during his Hofstra career. A solid, consistent player for
Seth Tierney the past four seasons, Romano has been a quiet unsung hero with great two-way skills for Hofstra. In 2015, he posted career-best season stats of three goals, four assists, seven points and 34 ground balls. He also forced eight turnovers which were two short of equaling his career-best of 10 set in 2014. Romano tallied three goals against Marist in April and recorded assists against Georgetown, St. John's, Drexel and Fairfield.
Selva, a three-year starter for the Pride, has started 42 of Hofstra's 44 games since the start of the 2013 season. A two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association second team selection in 2013 and 2014, Selva posted another stellar goals against average as a senior in 2015. He posted a 7.83 GAA and made 103 saves for a .515 save percentage. Selva tallied double-digit saves four times this year including a season-best 15 at Georgetown and 13 at Ohio State. He was also in the cage for the first three quarters in the Pride's shutout of Manhattan in February.
Reicherter, an important part of the Pride's rope unit with Rielly and Romano over the past four seasons, played in all 14 games in 2015 despite a painful foot injury. He, too, has been a consistent presence in the Hofstra line-up, playing in 47 games over his four-year career. In 2015, Reicherter recorded one assist, seven ground balls and five caused turnovers for the Pride.
The four Hofstra representatives will play for the North team, directed by University of Vermont Head Lacrosse Coach Ryan Curtis, in the Division I-II contest. The South squad will be directed by Seton Hill College Head Lacrosse Coach Brian Novotny.
