Matt Pelcher, a 2024 Hofstra University graduate and a four-year member of the Pride baseball team, has joined Frank Catalanotto's staff as a volunteer assistant coach trainee. Pelcher returns to his alma mater following a seven-month stint as a player development intern for the Washington Nationals organization.

"It's great to welcome Matt back to Hofstra," said Coach Catalanotto. "Matt has a deep love and understanding of the game, and I think he will be a valuable asset for our team as an assistant coach."

During his time with the Nationals, Pelcher was responsible for maintaining the transaction boards of both the general manager and farm director to ensure real-time updates in roster moves and depth charts. He also assisted in the design and execution of spring training schedules, updating internal rosters, and maintaining Florida Complex League rosters. Pelcher also coordinated travel for FCL games and wrote minor league player scouting reports.

Aside from his experience with the Nationals, which also includes a stint in the baseball analytics department, Pelcher has worked with Major League Baseball in e-commerce and the New York Mets in baseball analytics. He also served as an assistant to the manager at the Long Island Fieldhouse baseball training facility.

Pelcher, a native of Merrick, New York, played for the Pride from 2021 through 2024 and appeared in 73 games with 56 starts. A utility player, Pelcher saw time at catcher, infield, and outfield. He owns a career .315 batting average with eight doubles, one home run, and 34 RBIs. He was a team captain and also represented the team on Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
