Hempstead, NY – With the calendar year coming to a close, the Hofstra women's basketball team wraps up its non-conference slate with a trip to Lexington, Kentucky, to face Kentucky on Sunday. December 28.
Tip-off against the Wildcats is slated for 2 p.m. from Historic Memorial Coliseum. The game will stream on SEC Network+, and there will be live statistics for the game as well. These links are available on this page and on the women's basketball schedule page on GoHofstra.com.
The Pride nearly erased a double-digit fourth quarter deficit against UAlbany, but the Pride fell 52-43 to the Great Danes to drop to 2-8 on the year.
Micaela Carter posted a career-best 15 points, while
Alarice Gooden recorded four steals and nine points, and
Chloe Sterling registered nine points, six rebounds, and four assists versus the Great Danes.
Currently ranked #11 by the Associated Press and #12 by USA Today, Kentucky improved to 12-1 on the season after a 96-53 win over Wright State last Friday. Reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year Clara Stack leads the Wildcats with 16.2 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game, and she is averaging close to three blocks per contest.
Head Coach
Danielle Santos Atkinson was a member of the Kentucky coaching staff as an assistant coach from 2012 through 2014, and the Wildcats went 57-15 with trips to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2013 and the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2014 with Santos Atkinson on the sidelines. Sunday's game will mark the first time Santos Atkinson has returned to Historic Memorial Coliseum as an opposing coach.
Sunday will be just the second meeting in women's basketball between Hofstra and Kentucky. The previous meeting came at the 2005 Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic, a 67-54 victory for the Wildcats.
