Washington, DC - Hofstra's magical run through the Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship came to an end with a 68-56 loss to top-seeded Charleston in the championship game. The Cougars erased a 33-30 halftime deficit with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Pride by a 21-7 margin.
Hofstra erased an 18-11 deficit after one quarter, outscoring the Cougars, 22-12, in the second to lead at the half. But Charleston scored the first 17 points of the third quarter to take control.
Emma Von Essen closed her career with 13 points to lead the Pride, while
Chloe Sterling added 12 points.
Alarice Gooden (11) and
Nevaeh Brown (10) were also in double figures.
Sandra Magolico pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Pride, and Sterling dished out five assists.
Charleston got a game-high 23 points from Taryn Barbot. Taylor Barbot had 16 points and eight assists. Jami Hill posted 14 points, while Grace Ezebilo added 10 points and 16 rebounds.
Tenth-seeded Hofstra ends its season with a record of 11-22, while Charleston advances to the NCAA Championship with a 27-5 mark.

-Gooden, Sterling, and Von Essen were named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
-Hofstra's runner-up finish was the second in program history (2015).
-Hofstra took just five free throws in the game.
