MLAX: Ryan Tierney Named US Lacrosse Player of the Week

2/16/2021 11:30:00 AM

Hempstead, NY – US Lacrosse announced today that Hofstra senior Ryan Tierney has been named the US Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Tierney earned the honor after an outing for the ages in the team's season-opener on Saturday, a 19-18 overtime loss against St. John's. Against the Red Storm, Tierney scored a career-high eight goals and dished out three assists for 11 points, also a career-high. He scored four goals in each half, including the goal to send the game to overtime, while two of his three assists came in a second-half comeback attempt against St. John's.

Tierney's big day was among the best in Hofstra men's lacrosse history. He finished with the second-most goals in a game in program history, tying him with Dave Donatello (1993) and Owen Walsh (1949), and he became the first Hofstra player to score 10 or more points in a game since Adrian Sorichetti finished with 10 against St. John's on March 20, 2012.

This is the second US Lacrosse Player of the Week award for Tierney. He last received the national honor after finishing with eight points - then a career-high - on four goals and four assists against Michigan last season.
