Bembibre, Spain – Hofstra Alumna
Marianne Kalin has signed her first professional contract with Club Baloncesto Bembibre, out of Liga Femenina Endesa (LF Endesa), the top women's basketball league in Spain.
Kalin is the second Pride player from the Class of 2020 to sign a professional deal, as
Sandra Karsten joined the Wetterbygden Sparks in Sweden in May.
"I am very excited to start my professional career," said Kalin. "This year will be different from previous years and I am happy to learn about Spain and Bembibre. The culture of basketball in Spain is one of the best."
Kalin, a native of Lappeenranta, Finland, was a key player for all four of her seasons at Hofstra. She finished fifth in program history with 124 career appearances, and averaged 6.9 points per game (47 percent FG) and 4.6 rebounds per game during her career. In addition, Kalin tallied 141 assists, 87 blocks blocks and 85 steals. Her career single-game highs include 25 points (at Iona, 12/7/17), 13 rebounds (at UMBC, 12/9/18) six assists (Towson, 3/15/19), five blocks (last vs. Northeastern on 2/23/18) and three steals (last vs. Houston, 12/29/19).
During her final season with the Pride, Kalin finished second on the team in points per game (8.6) and rebounds per game (5.0). In addition, she led the team with 18 blocks and finished eighth in the CAA with a 47 percent field goal mark. She also compiled 12 games with at least 10 points and recorded one double double at Fairfield, and scored a season-high 18 points in a win over Morgan State on December 4.
