MLAX: Hofstra Hosts The Long Island Rivalry Presented By The Greene Turtle Tuesday

Hempstead, NY – The Long Island Rivalry, presented by The Greene Turtle, resumes this Tuesday, February 26 when the Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team host the Seawolves of Stony Brook at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Pride is coming off a heartbreaking 10-9 overtime loss at #14 Villanova on Saturday. Hofstra battled back from a 6-3 halftime deficit with a six-goal third quarter to take a 9-6 lead into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats answered with three goals in the fourth to send the game into overtime before last week's Villanova overtime hero against then top-ranked Yale, Connor Kirst, scored his second consecutive game winner.

Hofstra was led by junior Ryan Tierney with a career-high tying five goals, including three in the six-goal spurt. Senior Jimmy Yanes had a goal and an assist with sophomores Dylan McIntosh, Ryan Kinnard and James Philbin scoring the other Pride goals. Sophomore Bobby Casey made 10 saves in the Hofstra cage for his third consecutive double-digit save contest.

The Pride is led in scoring by Tierney with 10 goals and one assist while McIntosh has four goals. James Philbin has three goals and one assist while Riley Forte has one goal and three assists. Casey has a .760 goals against average with 35 saves and a .603 save percentage.

The Seawolves of Stony Brook are 1-1 on the season with a season opening loss 17-4 loss to Penn State and a 13-11victory at Brown this past Saturday. In the Brown game, Stony Brook was led by Tom Haun with three goals and two goals by Connor Grippe, Chris Pickel, Jr. and Layton Harrell. Michael Bollinger made 12 saves in the Seawolves cage.

Stony Brook is led by Haun with four goals and one assist, Harrell and Mike McCannell with two goals and two assists. Jack Walsh has a goal and a team-high three assists. Bollinger has a 15.23 goals against average with 21 saves and a .429 save percentage.

Hofstra and Stony Brook will be meeting for the 10th time on Tuesday with the Pride holding a 6-3 series lead. The two teams met in Stony Brook last season with the Pride posting a 14-2 victory.
 
Following the Stony Brook contest, the Pride will continue with their five-game homestand on Saturday, March 2 against the Hoyas of Georgetown at Shuart Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
