BB: Leiderman Signs With Miami Marlins

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Baseball alumnus David Leiderman (Class of 2017) signed a free agent contract with the Miami Marlins and will report to the teams minor league camp in early March. Leiderman is the 16th Hofstra player to join the Major League Baseball ranks and the seventh to sign as a free agent.

"I am very happy for David and his family," said Hofstra Coach John Russo. "I know it has been a goal of David's to play professional baseball and I am excited that he will now have the opportunity. David, who came in as a 155-pound freshman and left a 205-pound senior, is proof that hard work and dedication pays off." 

The Merrick, New York, native was a four-year starter for the Pride and played in 187 career games. He was a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection at third base and compiled a career average of .266 with 187 hits, 37 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs and 88 RBIs. Leiderman ranks fifth all-time at Hofstra in games played and his 187 hits rank 10th on the Pride's single season list. 

Leiderman was a standout player scholastically at Bellmore JFK High School, where was was an All-New York State, All-Long Island and All-Nassau County selection. He was the Diamond Award winner as a senior, which is presented to the top position player in Nassau County. Leiderman graduated from Hofstra with a degree in marketing.
