FH: Hofstra's Schavemaker Earns Accolades in The 2017 All-CAA Preseason Poll

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Field Hockey graduate-student Marloes Schavemaker has been named a 2017 All-Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Field Hockey Team honorable mention selection in a vote of the league's seven head coaches, the CAA announced on Wednesday.

Schavemaker, a native of Beverwijk, The Netherlands, is in her second and final season with the Pride in 2017. The Dutch defender started in all 19 games for Hofstra in 2016 and recorded two goals and three assists while logging the second-highest amount of playing time (1,193 mins.) on the team. Schavemaker also took just eight shots and recorded a team-high two defensive saves last season.

Five Delaware players led the way on the 2017 All-CAA Preseason Field Hockey Team highlighted by 2016 NFHCA All-America first team selection and current junior Greta Nauck, who was voted this year's preseason Player of the Year. William and Mary had three players on the team, James Madison had two and Northeastern and Drexel each had one honoree.

In the preseason team vote by the CAA coaches, the four-time defending champion Blue Hens of Delaware topped the poll for the fourth consecutive year after capturing the 2016 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. The Blue Hens, who were 23-2 last year and won their final 19 games of the season, received 35 points in the poll including five first-place votes. James Madison was picked to finish second this season and received 30 points and two first place votes. William and Mary was a close third with 28 points while Drexel and Northeastern placed in a tie for fourth with 18 points. Hofstra finished in sixth-place with 12 points with Towson rounding out the poll in seventh-place with six points.

Hofstra will begin its 2017 regular season on Friday, August 25 when the Pride travel to face the Leopards of Lafayette College at Rappolt Field in Forks Township, PA. Game time is 7 p.m.
