BB: Hofstra Heads To Charleston Southern For Weekend Series

Hempstead, NY - Following a week off after an 11-day road trip, the Hofstra Baseball team is back in action Saturday and Sunday at Charleston Southern University. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and then conclude the set with a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday. All three games will be available to watch online courtesy of the Big South Network. The video stream and live statistics are available through the links in the sidebar or on the baseball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

The Pride enter the weekend with a 2-5 mark after picking up two wins at the Mardi Gras Invitational at Nicholls State University. The Pride defeated host Nicholls State, 10-3, in the opener behind an 18-hit outburst and strong pitching from John Rooney, Andrew Mundy and Seamus Brazill. Nick Bottari (4 hits) and Mikey Riesner (2 hits, 3 RBIs) paced the offense while Rooney twirled five innings of no-hit ball before yielding to Mundy. The sophomore reliever threw three innings, allowing three hits and three unearned runs before Brazill came on to pitch the final inning. Hofstra then defeated Southern, 4-2, as Bottari had a three-run double in the eighth inning and Jorge Marrero pitched seven scoreless frames before Michael James got the final five outs for his first save.

Teddy Cillis paces Hofstra with a .353 average. Bottari has a .320 average with three doubles, one home run and six RBIs. Riesner is batting .318 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. He has also scored six runs. Marrero is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances (one start), while Cillis is 0-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Rooney has a 1-1 record and a 4.22 ERA in his two starts. Rooney and Marrero will start for the Pride Saturday, while Cillis gets the nod on Sunday.

Charleston Southern is 5-2 on the year and has won three consecutive games. Nate Blanchard leads the Buccaneers with a .367 average, while Cole German has three home runs and five RBIs to go along with a .280 average. Nick Constantankos is 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA in two starts. The freshman will start Saturday's opener for Charleston Southern. Cody Maw, who will start the second game, is 0-0 with a 3.52 ERA in two appearances. Kyle Dyson will get the Sunday start. The senior is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in his two starts this season.
