The Pride outshot both Boston-area teams last weekend, putting up 21 shots to BC's 12, while more than doubling the Crimson's shot total with a 20-9 advantage. The Eagles scored once early before netting the second goal in the 90th minute after Hofstra had pushed forward in an attempt to equalize. Sophomore goalkeeper
Leonard Arkhanhelskyi made his first collegiate start against BC, making three saves, before matching it with three more in his first career clean sheet in 110 minutes against Harvard.
Â
Hofstra will be looking to get back in the win column when Army West Point comes to town.
The Black Knights enter Saturday's game 1-2, and like the Pride, opened the season with a 3-1 win, downing fellow service academy, Air Force. Army West Point then suffered a pair of one-goal losses, falling to LIU Brooklyn, 3-2, before suffering a heartbreaking loss to Marist, 2-1, as the Black Knights equalized in the final minute before the Red Foxes scored with one second left on the clock to steal the win.
Â
Freshman Rex Epps leads Army West Point with three goals, getting both of the team's tallies against LIU Brooklyn and netting the tying goal against Marist. Christian Clark, Tyler Mitchiner and Nick Williams each scored in the win over Air Force. Junior Christian Nolasco recorded the win in net, making two saves, while sharing time with freshman Justin Stoll in each of the other two contests. Stoll has six saves on the season.
Â
The Black Knights finished the 2015 season with a 5-8-5 record and are predicted to finish sixth in the Patriot League, according to the league's preseason poll after graduating last season's leading scorer in Cody Guerry.
Â
Hofstra and Army West Point have met just four times previously, with the Pride holding a narrow 2-1-1 advantage in the series. The sides faced off last season, with Hofstra taking a 1-0 victory in West Point. Before that, the teams hadn't met since 1984, a 2-1 Pride win. The Black Knights won the 1970 meeting, 3-0, after the teams had played to a scoreless draw the previous year.
Â
Hofstra continues its challenging non-conference schedule on Tuesday, travelling to No. 6 Syracuse for a 7 p.m. matchup.
