To the Hofstra Soccer Family,
As I sit down to write this, I'm feeling a mix of gratitude, pride, and genuine excitement. Today is a moment I've thought about for a long time, and it's not lost on me how lucky I am to say this: I am officially stepping into the role of head coach for the Hofstra University men's soccer program.
It is truly an honor. This program has an incredible history, built by so many people who care deeply about Hofstra and about the young men who come through here. To be given the responsibility to lead it is something I will never take for granted. I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead, and I'm committed to giving everything I have to continue the success that has made Hofstra one of the nation's top programs.
For the past ten years, I've had the opportunity to work alongside someone who means more to me than I can fully express: Coach Nuttall. Richie has been a mentor, a friend, and an example of what it means to pour your heart into something every single day. His passion, his loyalty, his competitiveness, and the way he believes in every player who wears our jersey have shaped this program for more than 30 years. Learning from him, day in and day out, has been one of the greatest gifts of my coaching career. Thank you, Richie!
This season was another example of what makes Hofstra soccer so special. Reaching the NCAA Championship Third Round is something everyone should be proud of. This group showed heart, resilience, and togetherness. They represented this university the right way, on and off the field, and I could not be prouder of them.
As we look forward, our goals stay the same. We want to continue competing at the highest level. We want to bring in student-athletes who not only excel on the pitch, but who grow as leaders and as people. And we want Hofstra to remain one of the best programs in the country, not just because of results, but because of the culture, the character, and the community around it.
I'm ready to get to work. I'm ready to lead, to learn, to grow, and to help our players chase excellence in everything they do. The future of Hofstra men's soccer is bright, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to guide it forward.
Thank you, Richie.
Thank you to our players for your trust and your commitment.
Thank you to our alumni, supporters, and fans for being behind us every step of the way.
And thank you to everyone who has made this program what it is. I'm honored to take on this role, and I'm excited for what comes next.
With pride and gratitude,
Stephen Roche
