Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Field Hockey team heads to New Haven, CT this weekend for two non-conference games at Yale University. The Pride (1-3) will take on the Pioneers of Sacred Heart (0-4) on Friday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m. before taking on the host Bulldogs of Yale (2-0) on Sunday, September 11 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Johnson Field on the Yale campus.

Hofstra, which is coming off home losses last weekend to two nationally-ranked programs, is 1-3 on the season. The Pride dropped a 4-1 decision to Maine last Friday (Sept. 2) before falling to defending national champions, Syracuse, 5-1 on Sunday (Sept. 4). Maine is ranked 20th this week while Syracuse climbed one spot to number one this week in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Poll.

Sunday against Syracuse, Hofstra packed in the defense in the first half, holding the Orange to just one goal. But after Pride senior
Claudia Marin Samper's goal 10 minutes into the second half cut the deficit to 2-1, Syracuse (4-0) tallied three more goals to cruise to the 5-1 win. Swan, who played the entire game against Syracuse, made a career-high 14 saves in the loss as the Orange outshot the Pride, 33-7.
Three players on the Pride team have six points this season to lead the team in that category. Seniors
Claudia Marin Samper and
Stella Schoen each have two goals and a team high two assists while Sauve has a team-high three goals. Freshman
Lara Bittel also has two assists for the Pride. In goal, Saltus has a 1.72 goals against average with seven saves and a .700 save percentage in 122 minutes of action while Swan has a 4.43 goals against average with 19 saves and a .655 save percentage in 158 minutes of play. The Pride are averaging 2.25 goals per game while allowing 3.25 per outing.
The Pioneers of Sacred Heart enter the weekend with a 0-4 record following losses to Providence (6-1), Maine (6-1), Lock Haven (8-1) and Yale (2-0). The Pioneers are led in scoring by junior Nicole Tolli and sophomores Rebecca Hauser and Allie Brouhard all with one goal each. Sophomore Emily Degennaro minds the goal for Sacred Heart and has a 5.22 goals against average with 20 saves and a .513 save percentage in 254 minutes of action. The Pride and the Pioneers last met in Hempstead last year with Hofstra posting a 9-1 victory. The Pride lead the all-time series, 13-0.
The Bulldogs of Yale, who will face Lafayette on Saturday (Sept. 10) before meeting the Pride, are 2-0 on the season with wins over Sacred Heart (2-0) and Bryant (2-1 in OT). Like Hofstra, Yale has several players tied for the team scoring lead as junior Carol Middough, sophomores Brooke Reese and Allie Carrigan and freshman Camille Scheyer each have one goal. Junior Kiwi Comizio leads the team with two assists. Senior Emilie Katz is the Bulldog goalie and has recorded a 0.49 goals against average with seven saves and a .875 save percentage in almost 142 minutes of action. Hofstra and Yale will be squaring off for the 25
th time on Sunday with the Bulldogs holding a 15-9 series advantage. The two teams met last year in Hempstead with the Pride winning 4-1.
