BB: Hofstra Preps For CAA Play With Pair Of Midweek Games

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team play a pair of midweek games leading onto a Colonial Athletic Association series at William & Mary this weekend. The Pride (5-14) will play at Manhattan Tuesday and then host Monmouth on Wednesday.

Tuesday's game against Manhattan (3-13) will take place at Dutchess County Stadium in Wappinger Falls, New York, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dave Jesch (0-1) will take the mound for the Pride in that contest. The fifth year senior will be in search of his 10th career victory. Manhattan will counter with Marc Galvan, who is 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five appearances.

Hofstra holds a 22-11 advantage in the all-time series with Manhattan. Hofstra swept the home-and-home series in 2015, with the Pride winning 4-2 at home and 7-0 at Manhattan.

Monmouth will come to University Field with a record of 7-11. Hofstra is 2-6-1 all-time versus the Hawks. Monmouth picked up a 5-2 win over Hofstra at home last season. Teddy Cillis (0-0) will make the start on the mound for the Pride. Monmouth's starter has yet to be announced.

Hofstra is coming off being swept at Ohio State this past weekend. After a lopsided first game, Hofstra played the Buckeyes tough the next two contests. Two late inning rallies lifted Ohio State to 4-2 and 2-1 victories in the final pair of contests.

Freshman Kevin O'Connor has been the hottest hitter on the Pride. He hit .615 last week in four starts and is batting .476 on the season. O'Connor has a five-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in eight consecutive contests.

Live statistics links for both games can be found above or on the baseball schedule page on GoHofstra.com. In addition, an audio broadcast of the Monmouth game will be available courtesy of Pride Productions.

Following the two mid-week contests, Hofstra will open Colonial Athletic Association play against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. The three-game series begins Friday night at 6 p.m.
