Hofstra is 4-2 on the season after Tuesday's 13-5 at 13th-ranked Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium. Pride seniors
Brian von Bargen and
Sam Llinares each tallied two goals in the loss. But that was hardly enough to overcome a seven-goal run by the Seawolves to open the contest as Stony Brook snapped a two-game losing skid to Hofstra. Matt Schultz tallied three goals and two assists and Brody Eastwood notched four goals to pace the Seawolves.
Hofstra, which has wins over North Carolina (10-5), Princeton (11-10 in OT), NJIT (19-4) and Ohio State (8-5) and losses to Georgetown (11-6) and Stony Brook (13-5), wrap-up their brief two-game road trip with Saturday's contest at Providence College. The contest will mark the sixth meeting between the Pride and the Friars with Hofstra winning all five previous encounters including last year's 15-4 decision in Hempstead.
The Pride continues to be led by
Josh Byrne with 16 goals and seven assists. The 2015 NJCAA Attackman of the Year, who had recorded the second-most goals in his first five games since Michael LaCrosse tallied 23 goals in his first five contests in 1989, was kept off the stat sheet for the first time in his short Pride career at Stony Brook last Tuesday. Llinares, the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, has added 13 goals and three assists while Von Bargen now has a career-high 11 goals on the year.
Senior
Korey Hendrickson has contributed seven goals and four assists while junior
Trevor Kupecky has contributed four goals and two assists. Junior
Kris Clarke, who won 11 of 21 face-offs last Tuesday, has now won 72 of 119 face-offs (.605) and picked up 45 ground balls. Sophomore goalie
Jack Concannon has an 8.17 goals against average with 71 saves and a .602 save percentage in six games this season.
The Friars of Providence are 3-3 on the season. The Friars have wins over Holy Cross (12-8), Vermont (11-8) and Sacred Heart (11-8) and losses to Boston University (9-5), Bryant (12-10) and High Point (13-12). Providence has been idle since its loss at High Point on March 12.
Providence averages 10.17 goals per game while allowing 9.67 per outing. The Friars are led by Long Island native, senior Will Mazzone with 15 goals and six assists. Fellow Long Islander Brendan Kearns has tallied 10 goals and three assists while junior Texan Ryan Schaffer has added six goals and four assists. Freshman Joseph McHale leads the team with seven assists to go with his two goals. Freshman goalie Tate Boyce has a 9.67 goals against average with 79 saves and a .577 save percentage.
