Heartbreaker For Hofstra In CAA Semifinals

Towson, MD - The Hofstra men's lacrosse team gave everything they had and more as the Pride dropped a heartbreaking 11-10 overtime decision to top-seeded Towson on Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the CAA Championship at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Shea Kennedy was tremendous in net for the Pride as he had a career-high 19 saves, including a spectacular eight in the fourth quarter alone. Drew Bogardus led Hofstra with four goals, while also adding three ground balls and a caused turnover. Trevor Natalie also had a hat trick for the Pride.

Hofstra, the fourth seed, finishes the 2025 season with a record of 8-7, while Towson improves to 10-5 and advances to the CAA Championship Game on Saturday.

Similar to last week's duel between these teams, today's contest had an epic feel from the start. John Madsen would get the Pride on the scoreboard at the 13:43 mark for the Pride's first tally of the game to set up a thrilling showdown. Madsen would add his second of the day in the final minute of the opening stanza to bring the Pride within one, 4-3.

Back-to-back goals from the Pride, courtesy of Natalie and Lorenzo Varona, would give Hofstra its first lead with just over three minutes left in the second quarter before the teams would go into the halftime break knotted at five.

Trailing by one, Hofstra would go on a 4-0 scoring run in the third quarter to take a 9-6 advantage. The run came off the sticks of Natalie and Bogardus as each tallied two goals, with Rory Jones tallying a pair of assists.

Towson battled all the way back and two goals from the Tigers in the fourth quarter, including the last one from Mikey Weisshaar, put the Tigers in front at 10-9. Hofstra was not done, though, and Bogardus starred late and tied the score with 2:28 left to send the game to overtime.

An interference penalty at the end of regulation proved to be the difference as Towson had the possession and eventually Bode Maurer scored the game-winner with 1:43 left in the first overtime session.

Jones dished out a career-high-tying three assists in the game for Hofstra.

Madsen added a pair of goals for the Pride and led the team with four ground balls. Henry Troy posted two caused turnovers in the game.

Weisshaar had eight points on five goals and three assists for Towson, while also got four points on two goals and two assists from Ronan Fitzpatrick.
