MSOC: Holland Named Big Apple Soccer’s Player Of The Year

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra junior Joseph Holland added another honor to an accolades-filled offseason as the midfielder was named Big Apple Soccer's Men's Player of the Year, it was announced today.

The award was determined by fan voting (40 percent) and the BigAppleSoccer.com's staff (60 percent).

Holland, the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year as well as second-team NSCAA All-America and first-team all-region pick after scoring a career-high eight goals and tallying a personal-best nine assists for 25 points. major tallied a career-high eight goals and 25 points while tying a personal-best with nine assists. The London, England native topped Hofstra with 78 shots in leading the Pride to the program's first CAA championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006.

He was named the CAA Championship's Most Outstanding Player after scoring a goal in each game. For his career, Holland has 16 goals, 20 assists and 52 points in 61 career games.
A 3.35 GPA in the classroom also earned the philosophy major his first career NSCAA Scholar All-America selection. He was one just five midfielders and 11 players in the entire Division I or II to make the first team and the only CAA player to do so.

Other nominees for the Big Apple Soccer award included Monmouth University senior defender David Acuna and Rutgers sophomore forward Jason Wright.
