WBB: Hofstra Ends Regular Season On Wednesday At Northeastern

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will head into the final regular season game looking to finish in second place when the Pride plays Northeastern on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from the Cabot Center.

Both Hofstra (21-7 overall) and Drexel (16-12) are tied for second at 12-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association with one game left. James Madison has already clinched the regular season title and the top seed in the CAA Championship with a 15-1 ledger. Northeastern is currently sixth at 9-8 (and 14-14 overall) and trails Elon and Delaware (both 10-7) by one game in the standings. The Huskies can finish no worse than sixth to avoid having to play in the CAA Tournament's first round, which will feature two games on March 9 with seventh seed facing the 10th seed and the eighth-place team taking on the ninth-place squad.

Pride Productions free live video (courtesy of Northeastern) and live audio will be available. The game can also be heard locally on WRHU (88.7 FM) and the WRHU mobile app. Live statistics will also be available.

Hofstra has already clinched a second consecutive 20-win season, which marks the first time in the program's Division I era that the team has reached that mark in back-to-back seasons. The Pride cannot finish lower than third in the standings.

Senior guard Darius Faulk has been playing her best down the stretch run and posted her first career double-double in Hofstra's 66-54 victory over Charleston in Sunday's home finale. Faulk scored 12 points and cracked double figures in rebounding for the first time in her career by grabbing 11 boards, including four on the offensive glass. The Hempstead product was one of five players honored during the pregame Senior Day ceremonies and responded by adding six assists and posting a career-high five steals in a terrific all-around effort.

Hofstra held Charleston to 31.9 percent shooting, which was the 19th time the Pride has held a team to less than 40 percent from the field. Sophomore forward Ashunae Durant scored 10 points and tallied a game-high 16 rebounds while adding four assists in 36 minutes.

Northeastern is averaging 61.5 points-per-game, which is ranked sixth. Hofstra enters with the CAA's second-highest offense at 64.1. Samantha DeFreese is fifth in the CAA with a team-leading 14.1 scoring average. DeFreese is also third in the CAA in rebounding at 8.4 boards-per-contest. Only league-leader Da'Lishia Griffin (JMU) and Durant (9.4 rebounds) have more.

Hofstra is 19-18 in the all-times series and the recent history has swung momentum in the Pride's favor. Hofstra has won six in a row dating to the 2012-13 season, including a victory in the first matchup between the team's on Jan. 22. Junior guard Kelly Loftus scored 21 points in that game and Durant posted 14 points and seven rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting in the Pride's 75-50 victory. The Pride held the Huskies to 29.1 percent shooting from the field and limited the opposition to just 18.2 percent (4-for-22) from three-point range. Hofstra has not lost to Northeastern since falling on the road in 2013.

The CAA Championship will take place March 9-12 from the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
