Hempstead, NY – Three Hofstra Field Hockey student-athletes have been named to the 2016 All-Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey teams, the CAA announced Thursday.
Senior
Claudia Marin Samper, who broke the Hofstra career records for assists and points in 2016, was named to the All-CAA first team while classmate
Stella Schoen, who joined Marin Samper as the only senior duo to record 100 career points each, was named to the All-CAA second team. Freshman
Lara Bittel was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team while Schoen, a CoSIDA Academic All-American selection last spring, was also named to the CAA Field Hockey All-Academic Team.
Marin Samper, a native of Terrassa, Spain, ended her illustrious career with an exclamation point this season. She led the CAA in assists with 13 and finished second in goals with 18 and points with 49 while starting all 19 contests. The now three-time All-CAA first team selection, who recorded a season-high three goals and eight points in a win over Rider in September, also recorded three game-winning goals.
Marin Samper, a 2015 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American third team selection, closed out her career with 39 assists and 151 points in 78 contests which surpassed Genna Kovar's previous records of 34 assists and 148 points set from 2008-11. Marin Samper also finished with 56 career goals which ranks second on the Hofstra career chart, just two from breaking Kovar's mark of 57. Marin Samper wraps up her career ranked eighth in CAA history with her assist total and ninth in league history with her career points total.
Schoen, a native of Hamburg, Germany, earned her fourth All-CAA honor after first team selections in 2013 and 2015 and second team picks in 2014 and this season. She was second on the team in goals with 14 and points with 34, and tied for second with six assists. She recorded a season-high two goals and five points in games against Colgate, Lafayette and Fairfield and added two goals against Drexel. Schoen placed fourth in the CAA in points, fifth in goals and tied for 10
th in assists.
Schoen, who is a two-time NFHCA All Mid-East Region second team selection, finished her career with 120 points which ties Jamie Knoblick (1994-97) for fourth on the career list, 26 assists which ranks third, and 47 goals, which ranks seventh all-time on the Hofstra charts.
Schoen, who is a three-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction award winner, a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad member, CAA Commissioner's Academic Award recipient as well as the 2015 CAA Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year to go along with her CoSIDA Academic All-American award, also earned her second CAA Field Hockey All-Academic honor as she continues to carry a perfect 4.0 throughout her college career.
Bittel, a midfielder from Munich, Germany, started in all 17 games that she played in 2016 and tallied a Hofstra freshman class best of four goals and two assists for 10 points. She also recorded two game-winning goals and made one defensive save. Bittel recorded goals against Rider, Lafayette, Quinnipiac and Delaware.
