WBB: Luciano Named GoHofstra Student-Athlete Of The Week

Hempstead, N.Y. – Junior guard Krystal Luciano was named the GoHofstra Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 18 after helping the Pride to post two Colonial Athletic Association victories.

Luciano averaged 14 points, five assists and 2.5 rebounds in a road win at UNCW and a home win over William & Mary. She shot 66.7 percent from the field (10-for-15) and was a torrid 71.4 percent from three-point range (5-for-7) to help the Pride surge to a first-place start with a 4-1 CAA ledger. Hofstra is 13-3 overall.

A hot-shooting opening quarter helped power Hofstra to a 75-45 win over the Tribe on Sunday that saw Luciano log her third 20-point game this season by notching a career-high 21 points. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native shot 8-for-11 and racked up seven assists and five rebounds in helping the Pride improve to 6-0 at the Mack Sports Complex this season. She also added two steals and a block in logging 39 minutes.

Luciano added seven points three assists and a steal in a 68-64 win at UNCW. For the season she is averaging 11.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and her 62 total assists only trails senior Darius Faulk for the team lead.

Hofstra will continue a three-game homestand with a 12 p.m. Friday afternoon tilt versus Northeastern before hosting Towson on Sunday at 2 p.m.
