Hempstead, NY - Hofstra sophomore defender
Simca Schoen has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 27.
Schoen, a native of Hamburg, Germany, tallied three goals and four assists in the Pride's three victories last week that boosted their win streak to six games.
The 2014 CAA Rookie of the Year and All-CAA second team selection assisted on Hofstra's third goal of the game, by
Claudia Marin Samper, in the Pride's 3-2 win at Fairfield on September 23.
Two days later at home against Quinnipiac, Simca recorded a career-high six points and tied her previous bests of two goals and two assists to lead the Pride to a 6-3 victory over the Bobcats. She tallied the second and fourth Hofstra goals of the contest and assisted on goals by junior
Colby Hussong and Marin Samper.
In the final Pride contest of the week on Sunday, Schoen opened the scoring just 5:04 into the game and assisted on the second goal of the contest, by fellow German
Charlotte Loehr, in Hofstra's 4-1 victory over Yale.
Simca, the younger sister of junior teammate
Stella Schoen, who was named the CAA Player of the Week last Tuesday, now has six goals and six assists on the season. Last season, she tallied four goals and a Hofstra freshman record 11 assists for 19 points.
Schoen is the third Hofstra player to earn CAA Field Hockey Player of the Week honors after Marin Samper received the award on September 1 and her sister earned the award on September 22.
Hofstra, which is ranked 21st in the first NCAA Division I RPI of the 2015 season, returns to action on Friday, October 2 when the Pride host the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University at 3 p.m.
