Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team returns home to host Towson in a key Colonial Athletic Association series at University Field. The series begins Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Hofstra and Towson enter the weekend with identical 2-7 league records and both need series wins to remain in the hunt for the CAA Championship in May. Overall, Hofstra is 10-17 on the season, while Towson is 7-22-1.
Freshman
Chris Weiss, who serves as the Pride's starting catcher and has been working as the closer the past two weeks, will get the start on the mound in game one. Weiss is 0-0 with three saves in five appearances this season. Nick Cioffi (0-1, 4.91 ERA) will get the nod for Towson.
Game two's pitching matchup will feature
Alec Eisenberg (2-2, 7.43) for the Pride versus Kevin Ross (1-3, 4.58) of Towson. Game three will see the pride throw
Bowie Matteson (1-1, 4.99) while the Tigers counter with Lee Lawler (2-4, 6.25).
Hofstra and Towson have met 81 times on the diamond with Towson holding a 50-31 advantage. The teams have not played since the 2013 season as last year the teams were rained out in a three-game set in Maryland. The teams have split the last 12 meetings. Â
Hofstra is coming off a win over NYIT Tuesday, 7-3, and a 12-4 loss at Army Wednesday.
Brian MacDonald has enjoyed an offensive resurgence over the two game, collecting five hits and four RBIs.
Eric Ferguson hit his second home run of the season at Army and is now tied for the team lead.
Towson last played Wednesday and battled George Mason to a 13-13 tie in a game called by darkness. The teams combined for 31 hits on the day.
