BB: Hofstra Jumps Back Into CAA Play With Trip To Charleston

Hempstead, NY - After a non-conference trip to Villanova last weekend, the Hofstra Baseball team dives back into Colonial Athletic Association play with a trip to CAA-leading College of Charleston this weekend. Play begins Friday night at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Hofstra (9-13, 2-4 CAA) is coming off a 6-0 loss to Fairfield this past Tuesday. It was the Pride's first shutout loss of the season. Brian MacDonald allowed four runs (all in the sixth inning) on four hits over six innings of work, while the Pride offense posted five hits in the losing effort.

Charleston (18-7, 6-0 CAA) has won four straight games heading into the weekend with a sweep of James Madison last weekend and a 10-0 victory over USC Upstate this past Tuesday. The Cougars boast a strong pitching staff led by Taylor Clarke (5-1, 1.94 ERA) and Brandon Glazer (5-0, 3.46 ERA). The Charleston offense is paced by Morgan Phillips' .361 average, four home runs and 24 RBIs. Ryan Brown is batting .336, while Carl Wise has eight home runs and 38 RBIs.

Hofstra and Charleston have met eight times in the past with the Cougars holding a 7-1 lead in the series, including a 5-0 mark in Charleston. Last season, Charleston's first in the CAA, the Pride took one of three games in Hempstead.

Pitching matchups for the series will be Chris Bonk (2-3, 5.60) versus Clarke on Friday night; Alec Eisenberg (2-1, 7.80) versus Glazer on Saturday; and Bowie Matteson (1-0, 4.21) versus Wade Arduini (0-1, 5.32) on Sunday.

Live statistics are available for all three games, while live video will be available for Friday and Sunday's games.,
