WBB: Hofstra Caps Regular Season Wednesday Night At UNCW

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will conclude the regular season with a Wednesday night game at UNCW. Tipoff from the Trask Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.

The game will be a CAA Championship tune-up for the Pride, as Hofstra clinched the third seed and is 18-10 and 11-6 in conference play. James Madison is the regular season champion and the top seed while Drexel has secured the second seed.

Hofstra will be facing a Seahawks (13-15, 9-8) squad that can go as high as the fourth seed and can drop as low as the sixth seed. Free live video via UNCW's feed will be available as well as free live audio online and through WRHU (88.7 FM) in the local area.

Hofstra is 15-12 in the all-time series against UNCW, including a 71-57 home win on Jan. 18 in the first meeting between the schools this season. Four Hofstra players scored in double figures in the contest, including 17 points from Kelly Loftus and Elo Edeferioka's 16-point, seven-rebound effort. Hofstra has won the last four meetings between the schools. UNCW's last win came in the 2012 CAA Tournament.

With wins in five of the last six games, Hofstra will be looking to end the regular season with momentum and tie the 2005-06 squad for the second-most CAA wins in program history. UNCW is also entering playing some of its best basketball of the season. The Seahawks are on a three-game winning streak following wins against Towson, Delaware and Charleston.  A win by the Seahawks and an Elon loss would put UNCW in the fourth spot.

UNCW sophomore guard Brie Mobley is coming off a a school-record and Trask Coliseum-record 46 point effort last week in the overtime win over Delaware, which was the fourth-highest single game total in CAA history. She also set a school and CAA record by making 19 field goals on 25 attempts against the Blue Hens. Mobley scored all nine of the Seahawks' points in the overtime period as UNCW overcame a 12-point deficit to earn the win. Mobley also contributed 20 points in the Seahawks' road win over Charleston.

Junior Darius Faulk produced an impressive all-around game in Hofstra's previous contest versus Elon on Sunday. The point guard netted 13 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals in a game-high 39 minutes.

Durant continued her solid production as the first player off the bench. In 20 minutes, Durant scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She also went 7-for-8 from the line. Junior guard Asia Jackson provided another boost off the bench by making a season-high five steals and scoring seven points.

The CAA Championship will take place March 12-15 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The seventh-through-tenth seeds will play in the opening round on Friday for two games. Hofstra will play its first game in the tournament in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 13 against the sixth seed at 7:30 p.m.
