WBB: Hofstra Caps Non-Conference Play Wednesday At Delaware State

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will resume play from the holiday break when the Pride travels to face Delaware State on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the non-conference finale from Memorial Hall.

Free live audio will be available via Pride Productions and heard locally on WRHU (88.7 FM). Live statistics will also be available.

Hofstra has won three of four games this month to race to an 8-2 start, including a 71-67 road win at Marist in the previous game. The Pride will now face a Delaware State to close non-league play before the Colonial Athletic Association slate starts Jan. 3 versus Delaware.

Delaware State is off to a 3-8 start but has won two of the last three games, with both victories coming at home. The Hornets defeated Wagner, 66-44, before losing to Temple on the road. Delaware State rebounded to post an 88-63 win over Longwood on Dec. 22 in the team's previous contest.

Hofstra Head Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey has 161 career wins and her next victory will move her into a tie with Harvey Pyser for the program's all-time record. Pyser posted a career 162-131 record from 1977-87 and Kilburn-Steveskey is 161-132 in her 10th season with the program.

Senior guard Darius Faulk is coming off a 20-point game in Hofstra's previous game at Marist, where Faulk posted five assists and four steals. Seven players scored at least eight points in a balanced effort to earn a 71-67 victory in the non-conference road finale against the Red Foxes.

Sophomore forward Ashunae Durant nearly posted a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds at Marist. Durant is averaging a double-double with 12.5 points and 10.4 rebounds. Her rebounding figures leads the league.

Through the season's first four games, Delaware State did not crack the 50-point mark. The team also allowed Temple to score 100 points. Delaware State is shooting a collective 35.2 percent from the field as a team, though four players are averaging at least nine points. Mikah Aldridge's 13.1 PPG average leads the team and Amber Bogard is the only other team member to average in double figures at 10.5 points-per-game.

Before MEAC play starts, Delaware State will look to reverse a trend that has seen the Hornets out-scored by 14.6 points. DSU is shooting just 24.2 percent from three-point range and the opposition hauls in an average of 46.4 rebounds-per-game.

Hofstra is 1-1 in the all-time series, though the teams have not played in almost 20 years. The last meeting came during the 1994-95 campaign. Hofstra's only win came at Delaware State. The home team has never won in the brief series.
