WBB: Hofstra Faces Fairfield In Matchup Of Two Undefeated Teams

Hempstead, N.Y. – A Tuesday matchup at 7 p.m. will pit two 3-0 teams against each other as the red-shot Hofstra Pride takes on an equally thriving Fairfield team at 7 p.m. from Alumni Hall.

Live video and live statistics will be offered via Fairfield's website. Pride Productions will feature free live audio which can also be heard locally on WRHU (88.7 FM).

Hofstra is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2009-10 following a nine-point win at defending Patriot League-champion American. Fairfield improved to 3-0 by defeating local-rival Sacred Heart, 61-50, in the previous game to build on wins against La Salle and Loyola Maryland.

The Pride has a chance to win the season's first four games since 1997-98. Sophomore Ashunae Durant is a major reason for Hofstra's run at program history. The 5'10" forward has posted double-doubles in all three games this season and is averaging 17 points a league-leading 14 rebounds. Durant earned the CAA's Co-Player of the Week award on Monday after lifting Hofstra to wins over Stony Brook and American.

Hofstra has not allowed a team to crack the 70-point mark this season and has led at halftime in every contest as well as holding the rebounding edge in every game. Junior forward Anjie White's 7.7 rebounds are second on the team and senior guard Darius Faulk has averaged 5.7 boards and 7.7 points despite logging key minutes in the backcourt. Junior guard Kelly Loftus's outside shooting has opened space for teammates. She is averaging 15 points and has connected on half of the team's 20 total three-pointers.

Fairfield is 2-0 at home this season. The Stags have raced to fast starts in out-scoring teams, 90-54, in the opening half. Five players are averaging at least eight points, led by Kelsey Carey's 18.7 average. The junior forward is hitting 67.6 percent of her field goal attempts while contributing six rebounds per game. Samantha Cooper has also contributed to the low post with the 6'2" forward notching 10.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

Hofstra is 7-1 in the all-time series against Fairfield, which dates to 1978-79 season. Hofstra has won the last four games in the series and has not lost since the 1981-82 campaign. The Pride defeated the Stags at home, 66-53, in the second game of the 2014-15 season.

Following the game against the Stags, the Pride will head to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout against Oregon State on Friday and Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
