WBB: Hofstra To Host Northeastern On Tuesday

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will continue a whirlwind stretch of four games in eight days when the Pride hosts Northeastern on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from the Mack Sports Complex in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.

Hofstra (8-4, 1-0 CAA) has won five of the last six games and started league play with a convincing 78-53 win over Charleston on Sunday at home. The 25-point win margin was the largest for the Pride this season. Northeastern (3-8, 0-1 CAA) enters with a two-game losing streak and has lost seven of the last eight games. The Huskies started CAA play with a 58-35 road loss to Drexel.

For ticket information, please call the Hofstra Athletics Box Office at (516) HOF-TIXX or visit HofstraTickets.com. Free live video will be available via Pride Productions with live online audio also available as well. The game can also be heard via terrestrial radio on WRHU (88.7 FM).

The Pride used a total team effort in the CAA opener with seven players scoring at least five points. Hofstra's bench outscored the CofC reserves, 44-0, thanks to a career-high 19 points from junior guard Jakelle King-Gilchrist. King-Gilchrist, who never scored more than 11 points in a game, shot 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range.

Hofstra shot better than 50 percent (51.8) from the field for the second time this season. Redshirt-sophomore forward Angie White contributed to that showing by notching her first career double-double. White shot 5-for-9.

In her first season with George Washington University, White never reached double figures in points or rebounds. But White tallied 11 of each against Charleston, giving her a double-double in just her third career game for Hofstra. White recorded five blocks against ACC-member Virginia Tech in the previous game and showed she could be more than just a rim protector by grabbing four offensive rebounds in 22 minutes.

The Pride nearly doubled CofC in defensive rebounds (30-16) with sophomore forward Elo Edeferioka grabbing nine boards. Freshman forward Ashunae Durant nearly finished with a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds to complement White's 11 boards.

Led by junior guard Darius Faulk, Hofstra tallied 23 total assists. Faulk, who has helped sophomore Krystal Luciano with the ball-handling responsibilities since transferring from Virginia Tech, produced five assists with Luciano notching five helpers in the team's last game. Edeferioka also showed an ability to facilitate the offense by passing out of the low post with a career-high four assists. Junior forward Dee Thomas-Palmer also set a career high with two assists in just 10 minutes.

Hofstra is 16-18 in the all-time series, including a season sweep of the Huskies last season. Hofstra has won three of the last four meetings, including in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 CAA Tournament.  Edeferioka had 12 points and 12 rebounds in her first game against Northeastern.

Opponents have been able to find success from the field in shooting 40.5 percent against the Huskies. Three-point shooting has kept Northeastern in games as the squad is shooting 31.4 percent from long-range and makes an average of 6.5 three-pointers.

A'lece Mark is Northeastern's leading scorer at 14.2 points per game. Hofstra held Mark to six points in the team's last game, but Mark is off to a great start with 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.3 percent in 33.8 minutes. Tiffany Montagne has been the top three-point option by burying a team-high 25 shots and averaging 12.2 points. Samantha DeFreese is the third NU player to average in double figures at 11.4 PPG.
