WBB: Loftus Named GoHofstra Student-Athlete Of The Week

Hempstead, N.Y. – Sophomore Kelly Loftus was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec. 15, it was announced today.

Loftus is coming off a 15-point effort in Hofstra's 62-47 road win against NJIT on Dec. 9. That marked the third straight game the Alexandria, Virginia native scored at least 15 points and has scored a combined 55 points in those contests.

Against NJIT, Loftus knocked down 5-of-7 three-pointers in 27 minutes at the Fleisher Athletic Center. In Hofstra's three-game winning streak against Albany, Robert Morris and NJIT, she has connected on 16-of-32 three-pointers. Against three-time defending America East-champion Albany, Loftus more than doubled her previous career high on three-point shots by making seven.

On the season, Loftus is second on the team with 11.1 points-per-game, which trails only fellow sophomore Elo Edeferioka. Her 19 made three-pointers are nine more than the next-closest teammate.

She was the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week on Dec. 8. Through the Pride's first nine games, she has finished in double figures five times. Defensively, she is tied with fellow sophomore Krystal Luciano for the team lead with 12.

Hofstra (6-3) will look to build on a three-game winning streak when Loftus and the Pride travel to face ACC-member Boston College on Sunday at noon.
