Hempstead, N.Y. –Hofstra University Head Women's Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey announced today that Elo Edeferioka has signed a National Letter of Intent to begin her college career at Hofstra in the fall of 2013.
Edeferioka, a 6-foot-3 forward from Burlington, N.J., is currently enrolled at Life Center Academy in Burlington. She will join a Hofstra recruiting class that already includes guards Krystal Luciano (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Antonio) and Kelly Loftus (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon).
"Elo is a great fit for what we are trying to accomplish here at Hofstra,” Kilburn-Steveskey said. “She is extremely athletic and one of the most sought-after post players in the nation. She will definitely fit into our up tempo style of play and we feel she is just scratching the surface of her potential.
“Her personality is contagious and, best of all, she is the type of person we want at Hofstra.”
The Nigerian-born Edeferioka was tabbed as a four-star recruit by ESPN HoopsGurlz and ranked as the 14th-best post player in the nation. As a senior, Edeferioka led Life Center to a 28-3 record and a No. 1 ranking for prep schools in the state by the Star-Ledger.
Edeferioka nearly averaged a double-double as a senior, scoring nine points and collecting 11.1 rebounds while compiling nearly three blocks per game. She also played for the Nigerian national team in the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship. Two out of three members of the recruiting class have international experience with Luciano having played for the Puerto Rico national team. Loftus has also played for the AAU Cardinals.
Other scouting services also rank Edeferioka highly with All-Star Girls Report placing her 260 in the country overall and JumpOffPlus.com ranking her 124th in the nation. She also made the Star-Ledger's Third-Team All-Prep squad last month.
