Norman, OK - Matt Oberste hit a three-run home run in the
bottom of the ninth inning to lift #14 Oklahoma over the Pride, 7-4, in the
finale of a four-game series at Mitchell Park Sunday afternoon. The win
completed a series sweep for the Sooners (4-0).
Hofstra (0-4) rallied from a 4-1 deficit with three runs in
the eighth inning to tie the game. Dalton Rouleau got the rally started by
drawing a one-out walk. Taylor Stuart followed with a double to put runners on
second and third. Following the second out of the inning, Austin Nyman
delivered a two-run double to make it a 4-3 ballgame. After Nyman stole third,
Bryan Verbitsky reached on an infield single to knock in Nyman with the tying
run.
Oklahoma and the Pride went down in order in their next turn's
at-bat, before Oklahoma struck for the win in its final turn at the plate. Jack
Mayfield had a one-out single and Max White followed with a walk to bring up
Oberste, who had earlier delivered a sacrifice fly. This time the Sooner first
baseman homered to right field to give Oklahoma the win.
In addition to Nyman and Verbitsky's run-scoring hits,
Hofstra also got an RBI single from Matt Reistetter.
Cody Normand took the loss for Hofstra, allowing two hits
and three runs in 1 1/3 innings. Pride starter Jared Rogers went five innings,
allowing five hits and three runs (one earned).
Robert Tasin got the win in relief for Oklahoma, pitching a
perfect ninth inning. Oklahoma starter Corey Copping allowed two hits over
seven innings.
Hofstra returns to action this Friday night at Cal State
Bakersfield with first pitch scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern time.
