Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra University Head Women's Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today by Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway.
"Krista has worked hard to establish a program based on academic success, building a winning tradition and preparing the women in our program to be successful after graduation," commented Hathaway. "We're excited to extend her tenure as we continue the hard work needed to achieve our basketball goals of a CAA Championship and opportunity to represent Hofstra University in the NCAA Tournament.”
Kilburn-Steveskey is entering her eighth season as Hofstra's head coach for the 2013-14 campaign. She has averaged 17 wins per season since arriving on campus in 2006 while posting five winning seasons and leading the Pride to three appearances in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. With a 119-102 career record, Kilburn-Steveskey stands second on the Pride's all-time wins list and her.538 winning percentage (105-85) is fourth all-time.
“I am so grateful to Jeffrey Hathaway and President Stuart Rabinowitz for providing me the opportunity to continue the quest for success for Women's Basketball here at Hofstra University,” Kilburn-Steveskey said. “I look forward to our ongoing collaboration in continuing to make Hofstra a respected name on the national landscape. My staff, myself and my players are prepared to put in the work required as we are competing for a Colonial Athletic Association title and a NCAA tournament berth.”
Kilburn-Steveskey, who was named the 11th head women's basketball coach at Hofstra University on May 16, 2006, led the Pride to the WNIT in 2007, 2010 and 2012, with a trip to the quarterfinals in 2007 and a second round visit in 2010. She also steered Hofstra to a team Division I-record 26 victories in 2006-07.
In Kilburn-Steveskey's tenure, she has coached a three-time All-America selection in Shante Evans as well as recruiting and developing a CAA Rookie of the Year, four CAA All-Rookie Team members and five players who have earned All-CAA selection (resulting in eight All-CAA team picks overall with Evans garnering three first-team picks and a second-team selection in her career). In 2012-13, Candace Bond became the first Hofstra player to win the CAA's Defensive Player of the Year award under Kilburn-Steveskey.
Hofstra has also been successful off the court under Kilburn-Steveskey's watch, as 26 student-athletes have been named to the CAA All-Academic Team. She and her teams have been highly active in charitable endeavors, supporting a multitude of causes, both locally and nationally. Kilburn-Steveskey is active with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN), a Long Island based food pantry.
