Dover, DE - Kenny Jackson continued his recent string of strong
hitting with four hits, including a home run, and two RBIs and Taylor Stuart
added two hits and four RBIs to back starter John Tiedemann in an 11-3 win for
the Pride Saturday afternoon.
Jackson ran his hitting streak to seven games as the
sophomore is batting .500 (15-30) over that span. The four-hit game was the third of his career. Stuart's four RBIs were a career-best. Tiedemann evened his record
at 3-3 after hurling seven innings of five-hit, three-run ball with eight
strikeouts.
Tiedemann and his Delaware State counterpart, Matt McClain
engaged in a pitcher's duel for the first five innings as Hofstra (12-12)
managed just two hits and the Hornets mustered just one. But Hofstra broke
through in the sixth, scoring three runs. Bryan Verbitsky walked and advanced
to third on a throwing error by McLain on a pickoff attempts. Matt Reistetter singled
to McClain to drive in Verbitsky with the first run of the game and then moved
to second on an error. Following a sacrifice bunt, Stuart delivered his first
RBI of the game with a single up the middle to make it 2-0. Stuart would come around
on a single by Matt Ford two batters later for a 3-0 Pride lead.
The Pride broke the game open in the seventh with seven
runs. Jackson led off the inning with his first home run of the year to make it
4-0. Then three consecutive singles loaded the bases and after a fielder's
choice resulted in an out at the plate, Stuart came through again with a
two-run single for a 6-0 lead. Danny Poma followed with a two-run single of his
own, stole second and moved to third on a fly out. A walk to Jared Hammer put
runners on the corners and Jackson picked up his second RBI of the inning with
a single. Kevin Flynn capped of the scoring with an RBI single to make it 10-0.
The Hornets (15-11-1) finally got to Tiedemann in the
seventh, notching three runs on four hits. Elliott Gardner had an RBI single to
plate the first run and Scott Davis recorded a two-run single before Tiedemann
struck out his eighth batter of the game to end the inning and his afternoon.
Jared Rogers pitched two scoreless innings in his first game back in nearly
three weeks due to injury.
Hofstra would tack on a final run in the eight as Reistetter
doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a ground out by Stuart.
In addition to Jackson and Stuart, the Pride got three hits
and three runs scored from Reistetter and two hits from Flynn.
McClain (3-3) took the loss, allowing eight hits and six
runs in 6-plus innings of work.

tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. when they send freshman Dave Jesch to the hill in
search of his fourth win of the season.
