Dover, DE - Jordan Elliot went 7 1/3 innings, scattered eight hits and allowed two runs and JP Frey went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs as Delaware State posted a 10-2 win over Hofstra Friday evening at Soldier Field.

Delaware State improves to 15-10-1 with the win, while Hofstra falls to 11-12.

The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the first without putting a ball out of the infield. Troy Drummond led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Cameron Cecil then singled to third base to put runners on the corners. Ryan Haas then grounded out to pitcher Andrew Barbarino to drive home Drummond for a 1-0 Delaware State lead.

The home team added five runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Hornets loaded the bases with one out after two singles and a walk, and Eddie Sorondo reached on an infield single to drive home one run. A second run scored on the play after a throwing error by Barbarino put Sorondo on second and Hass on third. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Aaron Nardone doubled home two runs to make it 5-0. That ended Barbarino's day as he gave way to Gregg Lettini. Tony Gatto greeted the Pride junior with a sacrifice fly to left that made it a six-run game. The Hornets would tack on three runs in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead. Frey had a two-run triple in the inning.

Hofstra cracked the scoring column in the sixth as Danny Poma doubled and came in on a Jared Hammer double.  The pair combined for Hofstra's second run in the eighth as Poma singled, went to second on an infield out and scored on Hammer's single through the left side.

Barbarino took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. He went 2 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, six runs and three walks. Poma and Hammer each had three hits on the day for the Pride, while Kenny Jackson added two.

Elliott improved to 4-2 with the victory and Aaron Nardone and Ryan Haas both added two RBIs for the Hornets.

Hofstra and Delaware State are back in action in game two of the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
