Riverdale, NY - Andrew Gorecki and Aidan O'Leary each had two hits and two RBIs as Manhattan snapped Hofstra's four-game winning streak with a 9-4 win at Van Cortlandt Park this afternoon.

Hofstra falls to 8-10 with the loss, while Manhattan improves to 3-14 and win in its home opener.

Manhattan jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring two times in the first and then twice more in the third. In the bottom of the first Anthony Vega drew a one-out walk from Hofstra starter Brett Schreiber and went to second on a ground out. Ramon Ortega was hit by a pitch and Gorecki followed that with a single through the left side for a 1-0 lead. O'Leary then singled through the left side as well to give Manhattan a 2-0 advantage.

The Jaspers used another clutch two-out hit in the third to score as Yoandry Galan delivered a two-run single that plated Gorecki and O'Leary to make it a 4-0 game.

The Pride got on the board in the fourth with two runs of their own. Jared Hammer walked and went to second on Kenny Jackson's fielder's choice that resulted in both runners reaching safely due to an error. Kevin Flynn followed with a single that scored Hammer and sent Jackson to third. Jackson would come in on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Taylor Stuart to make it a 4-2 game.

But Manhattan loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and pushed three more runs across to take a 7-2 lead. Ortega and O'Leary each had RBI singles in the inning and Gorecki drove in a run with a walk.

The Jaspers went ahead, 9-2, with a pair of runs in the eighth before Hofstra tacked on two runs in the ninth to make it a 9-4 final. Mike Beers and Christopher Nardo each had RBI singles for Hofstra in the final inning.

Schreiber (0-1) took the loss for the Pride, allowing five hits and four runs in three innings. He struck out three batters and also hit three. Taylor Sewitt (3-1) picked up the win in relief for the Jaspers, allowing three hits and an unearned run in 4 2/3 innings.

Jackson had two hits and two runs scored for the Pride, while Hammer had a hit and two runs scored.

Hofstra is back in action this weekend when it travels to Old Dominion for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series that begins Friday at 6 p.m.
