Williamsburg, VA - William and Mary scored five times in the fourth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit and went on to post a 10-3 victory over the Pride Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Tribe improves to 16-15 with the win and is 9-6 in CAA action. Hofstra falls to 5-17, 5-7 in the CAA.
Hofstra took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth after a first inning RBI groundout from Dylan Nasiatka
, a second inning RBI single off the bat of Logan Davis
and a fourth inning run that scored on an error.
But the Tribe pushed five runs across the plate in their half of the fourth as Derek Lowe singled with one out and went to second when Hofstra starter Rob Kumbatovic
(0-5) hit Ryan Brown. Ryan Lindenmuth then delivered a run-scoring single that made it 3-2. Derrick Osteen then tied the score with a double and chased Kumbatovic. New pitcher Jeff Guthridge
gave up a two-run double to his first batter, Jonathan Slattery, which gave William & Mary the lead, 5-3. The Tribe tacked on another run in the inning on a Stephen Arcure single.
William and Mary would put the game out of reach with four runs in the eighth, with two runs coming in on Ryan Williams' double.
Kumbatovic gave up seven hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings. Guthridge struck out five batters in his four innings and also gave up four runs to see his scoreless streak snapped at 9 2/3 innings (over 7 appearances).
Jay McCarthy picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings. Brett Koehler notched his fifth save after four scoreless innings to close the game.
Davis went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Matt Reistetter
also went 2-for-3 for the Pride. Danny Poma
and Jared Hammer
were both 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Slattery was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Tribe.
Hofstra is next in action Tuesday afternoon when it travel to New York Tech for a 3 p.m. start. Hofstra returns home to host Albany at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
